Our tradition, for the last three weeks, is that I bake a loaf of no-knead sourdough bread Sunday morning and we have BLTs for lunch, using bacon from the 1/2 pig we purchased from Linda’s Tasty Pork in Carmel Valley. A 9th generation Californian, Linda Ferrasci operates Rancho Chupinos, which has been in the family since 1878. In her quest for the ultimate pork, the Berkshire breed is the tastiest breed Linda’s found. She’s become known far and wide for the taste, quality and reputation of her pork. We have been buying our pork from Linda for about 4 years now, usually 1/2 a pig a time. Keeps the freezer well stocked!
In our Fifth Crow Farms CSA box this week we found Escarole, Leeks, Purple Beans, Purple Islander Peppers, Carrots, Pristine Apples, Romanesco cauliflower and Hutterite Dry Beans. Daily, I enjoy avocado toast with Haas avocados from Mariquita Farms, along with a slice of heirloom tomato on a piece of my homemade bread. For the rest of the week of August 6, here is my daily dinner plan:
Saturday: Grilled NY steaks, sautéed escarole
Sunday: Roasted salmon, steamed purple beans, tomatoes and bufala mozzarella, corn on the cob
Monday: Dinner out as part of our stay-cation
Tuesday: Taco Tuesday – grilled flank steak with sautéed peppers and onions, pot of black beans
Wednesday: Sumac Chicken with Cauliflower and Carrots (similar to this Easy Roast Chicken recipe I also like)
Thursday: Pork meatballs with sautéed escarole, steamed purple beans
Friday: TGIF and Horse Show
